The meeting with Dr Mischenko went very well on Monday.

I felt that I was able to explain to her all the difficulties we encountered and continue to come up against as a family without being dismissed or judged.

She is currently working on a 5 year review of midwifery and children's services and said that the information we have shared with her will be helpful.

She is also going to arrange for us to meet up with someone from the midwifery services who is very keen to get input from service users to help her adjust the care given within the Leeds hospitals.

I found out that since our experience there has been a user group commissioned within the midwifery services and the hospitals and from this there has already been some changes to the care they give.

This is a fantastic step forward and gives us so much hope that people will be given the correct care and support they need and deserve following the loss of a baby.

Dr Mischenko was enthusiastic about us meeting the midwifery lead and feels that she will be very open to the ideas we have for improving the services.

It will be good to be able to feel like our ideas are going to be listened to and could implement change within the hospitals.

Dr Mischenko also said that she is going to talk with colleagues to see what and where would be the best way for us to tackle the issues we had around miscommunication and lack of communication within the community services following discharge from hospital.

It felt very positive to be listened to and have our concerns taken seriously. I feel like things are starting to change within the services, all be it slowly.

I really hope that this will lead to us working together with the services to ensure a change in the provision of bereavement support.

All any of us would like to see is that no other families have to go through what we have been through and that bereavement support and counselling is something that becomes readily available to all that need it.
